Spartanburg County Teacher Arrested on Eight Counts of Sexual Battery Involving Student

BOILING SPRINGS, SOUTH CAROLINA – A teacher in Spartanburg County has been arrested and charged after investigators say he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student, leading to multiple sexual battery charges.

Claims Surface at Boiling Springs High School

On Friday, September 12, parents at Boiling Springs High School were notified of allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student. School officials confirmed that an investigation was underway.

Teacher Arrested and Charged

By Saturday, September 13, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office announced that Micah Lanford had been arrested and charged with four counts of sexual battery of a student.

On the following day, Sunday, deputies confirmed that four additional warrants for sexual battery of a student had been signed, bringing the total charges against Lanford to eight counts.

Jail and Bond Status

Lanford is currently being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center. On Sunday, a judge denied him bond, meaning he will remain in custody as the case proceeds.

Investigation Still Ongoing

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active and is asking for the community’s help.
