Six Years Later, Search for Suspects in James Island Teen’s Death Continues
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. — Six years after the body of 16-year-old Jaquez Cromwell was discovered on James Island, investigators say the search for suspects in his death is still ongoing.
Teen Went Missing During Storm Prep
On September 6, 2019, Cromwell had gone with a parent to his grandparents’ home on Jeffery Road to help prepare for an approaching hurricane.
At some point, deputies say he walked away and encountered someone on a dirt path between Jeffery and Honey Hill roads. There, Cromwell was shot and killed.
Body Found Days Later
The teen was reported missing as severe weather swept through the area. His body was not found until several days later, deepening the tragedy for his family and the James Island community.
No Suspects Identified
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says no suspects have been identified in the case. Detectives continue to follow leads, but the investigation remains unsolved.
