Rock Hill Teen Fatally Shot; 15-Year-Old Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter
ROCK HILL, S.C. — A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot Thursday afternoon in Rock Hill, and police say a 15-year-old has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death.
Shooting Inside Springsteen Road Apartment
The shooting happened around 1 p.m. Thursday inside an apartment on the 1800 block of Springsteen Road, near Dave Lyle Boulevard and Interstate 77.
According to the Rock Hill Police Department, both teens were inside the apartment when the firearm discharged, striking the younger boy once.
Police: Firearm Mishandled
Investigators said the 15-year-old was “manipulating and mishandling a firearm” when the shot was fired.
The boy remains in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. His identity has not been released because he is a minor.
The identity of the 14-year-old victim has not yet been made public, pending notification from the York County Coroner’s Office.
Gun Ownership Under Investigation
Police confirmed the firearm was recovered, but it remains unclear who owned it or how it ended up in the possession of minors.
Authorities emphasized that it is illegal for anyone under 18 to possess a handgun in South Carolina.
