Porch Pirate Caught on Camera: Garden Grove Police Arrest Serial Package Theft Suspect

GARDEN GROVE, CALIFORNIA — Police in Garden Grove say they’ve arrested a man accused of carrying out multiple package thefts across the city — a series of crimes that had frustrated residents and circulated widely on neighborhood security videos.

According to the Garden Grove Police Department, detectives tracked down the suspect after several residents shared surveillance footage showing a man stealing packages from porches in broad daylight. The videos, posted online and across local social media pages, helped investigators identify and locate the individual.

Caught on Camera and Exposed Online

Police say the suspect’s arrest came after an ongoing investigation that began when homeowners submitted home security clips to officers. One video shows the man walking up to a porch, grabbing a delivery box, and running back to his car before speeding off — all captured clearly by a doorbell camera.

The department shared these clips publicly, asking residents if they recognized the thief or had also been targeted. Within days, tips from the community helped narrow the search.

Suspect Linked to Multiple Thefts

Authorities confirmed the suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday and is believed to be connected to several incidents of package theft throughout Garden Grove. Detectives say they are still reviewing reports and footage from residents who may have been victimized but haven’t yet come forward.

“Doorbell cameras and community tips played a huge role in catching this suspect,” a Garden Grove police spokesperson said. “We encourage anyone missing packages to check their footage and contact us.”

Police Urge Residents to Stay Alert

Officials reminded residents to take precautions against so-called “porch pirates” — especially during the busy holiday shopping season. They recommend tracking deliveries closely, requesting signature confirmations, or using secure pickup lockers when available.

“The more we work together, the harder it becomes for these thieves to get away with it,” police said in their statement.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released pending formal charges.

Residents with additional information are asked to contact the Garden Grove Police Department or submit tips through the department’s online reporting system.
