Police Investigate Smash-and-Grab Robberies Targeting Smoke Shops in Broward County

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Police are investigating a string of overnight smash-and-grab robberies that targeted multiple smoke shops across Broward County early Tuesday morning, with thousands of dollars in products stolen and storefronts left shattered.

According to Margate Police, officers were first called to the Vapor Shark Smoke Shop on West Sample Road around 3 a.m. after reports of a break-in. Responding officers discovered the front glass window smashed and the store ransacked.

Surveillance Video Shows Suspects in Hoodies and Masks

Video footage from the Vapor Shark store showed two suspects wearing hoodies and masks, one of whom appeared to be running from the store carrying a large plastic container.

Police said the burglars quickly entered through the broken glass, grabbed merchandise, and fled the scene before officers arrived.

About an hour later, officers responded to a second call — another burglary at Sky World Smoke Shop on Royal Palm Boulevard in Margate. Video from that scene also showed a smashed storefront window, with merchandise and glass strewn across the sidewalk.

The store owner told NBC6 that the thieves escaped with at least $15,000 worth of products, primarily high-end vape devices and accessories.

“They knew exactly what to grab,” the owner said. “They were in and out in less than a minute — it’s really frustrating for small business owners like us.”

Multiple Smoke Shops Targeted in One Night

Police believe the suspects may be connected to at least three smoke shop burglaries across the region, including a third incident in Deerfield Beach that occurred later that morning.

Officers reported finding several boxes of vapes scattered throughout the parking lot near one of the stores, suggesting the suspects may have dropped items while fleeing.

“The second robbery took just about 30 seconds,” a Margate police spokesperson told reporters. “This was a well-planned, fast-moving operation.”

Authorities Investigating Connection Between Incidents

While investigators have not yet confirmed whether the same suspects are responsible for all the smash-and-grab incidents, the timing and methods appear similar — leading officers to explore the likelihood of a coordinated effort.

Police are reviewing security footage from surrounding businesses and urging anyone with information about the suspects or vehicles seen in the area to contact Broward Crime Stoppers.

Pattern of Smash-and-Grab Crimes

This latest string of burglaries follows a broader pattern of smash-and-grab thefts targeting smoke and vape shops across South Florida. Many of these crimes occur during early morning hours, with suspects using stolen vehicles or tools to quickly breach storefronts before fleeing.

Local store owners say the financial impact is devastating, as insurance rarely covers the full losses from stolen goods and property damage.

Ongoing Investigation

As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and investigators are continuing to process evidence from each scene. Authorities confirmed that forensic teams collected fingerprints and surveillance data from both shops.

Police are urging businesses in the area to reinforce security measures, including alarms, surveillance cameras, and reinforced glass doors.

Residents with information can call Margate Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
