Oklahoma Mother Charged with Child Neglect After 5-Month-Old Baby Found Dead at Home
BIXBY, Okla. — A Bixby woman has been charged with child neglect after her 5-month-old baby was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. Authorities allege the mother, Sarah Jamison, had a blood alcohol content nearly four times the legal limit when police arrived.
According to the Bixby Police Department, officers were called to a home on October 18, 2025, around 5:44 a.m. after the baby’s father found the infant not breathing and began CPR.
What Investigators Found at the Scene
Responding officers found Jamison’s partner performing CPR on the baby, who was described as grey and not breathing. Police reported that Jamison was difficult to wake up, smelled strongly of alcohol, and had slurred speech.
After several attempts, officers managed to get her to sit on the couch for questioning. They noted that she appeared disoriented and unsteady.
What the Mother Told Police
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jamison told officers, “If my kid is dead, I might as well be too.” She also claimed she had been trying to get help but could not wake up.
She later admitted to drinking a six-pack of Voodoo Ranger Juice Force beer and taking a shot of rum the night before, saying she couldn’t remember anything after that.
Jamison reportedly told investigators that she had stopped drinking during her pregnancy but started again about six weeks after giving birth, citing struggles with postpartum depression.
Statements from the Baby’s Father
The baby’s father told police that he arrived home around 10 p.m. the night before and drank with Jamison. He said the baby seemed fine when she took the child to bed while he stayed on the couch.
When he woke up early that morning, he found the baby under Jamison’s shoulder, not breathing. He called 911 and started CPR before officers arrived.
Both parents confirmed to police that they regularly co-slept with the baby.
Alcohol Test Results and Current Status
Hospital staff later drew Jamison’s blood at 8:45 a.m., revealing a blood alcohol concentration of 0.309 — nearly four times the legal driving limit.
Police say the case remains an open investigation. Jamison is charged with child neglect, though officials emphasized that this is a charge, not a conviction.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities await further autopsy results.
