North Charleston Man Accused of Threats and Assault at Local Job Fair
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A 45-year-old man has been arrested after authorities say he threatened a state employee and assaulted another during a confrontation at a North Charleston job fair.
According to arrest warrants filed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Ricardo Darnell Jones became irate on April 17 when asked to sign in at the SC Works Center on Hanahan Road.
Threats Against State Employee
Investigators allege that Jones threatened a South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW) employee, telling them that if he had his gun, “they would not be there.”
The confrontation reportedly left the employee trapped, with tables and walls blocking their ability to get away. Warrants indicate the incident was caught on video and witnessed by several staff members.
Assault in the Lobby
After being told to leave the job fair, Jones went into the lobby, where he dropped his phone. When another employee attempted to pick it up, Jones allegedly pushed them into a wall, causing the worker to hit their head.
The warrant states the victim feared further assault as Jones shouted and demanded they not touch his phone.
Arrest and Charges
Following an SCDEW request for investigation, Jones was taken into custody on Wednesday. He was booked into the Charleston County jail on:
- Two counts of third-degree assault and battery
- One count of threatening the life of a public employee
Authorities have not released information about bond or upcoming court appearances.
