North Carolina Man Charged with Murder of 36-Year-Old Woman; Deputies Searching for Remains
HIGH POINT, N.C. — A North Carolina man has been charged with the murder of a missing woman, as investigators continue searching for her remains and vehicle.
Case Background
Deputies with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said Amber Schimmelpfenning, 36, was last seen on September 9. That same day, around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of “suspicious activity” on Blackberry Ridge Drive in High Point.
An extensive search followed, during which deputies discovered a crime scene but did not locate Schimmelpfenning. The missing person case quickly became a homicide investigation.
Charges Filed Against Ricky Lam
Detectives later obtained warrants for Ricky Lam, 40, charging him with:
- Felony First-Degree Murder
- Felony Concealment/Failure to Report a Death
- Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
On September 14, Lam was served with the warrants while already in custody at the Davidson County Detention Center on unrelated charges. He is being held without bond.
Ongoing Search for Victim’s Remains
Authorities are actively searching for Schimmelpfenning’s remains and her champagne-colored Chevrolet Avalanche with North Carolina license plate VHA-5320.
