Minnesota Weather Alert: East Grand Forks Faces Storms Friday and Weekend Showers

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Residents across northwest Minnesota should prepare for a stormy stretch beginning Friday, with thunderstorms and showers expected to affect travel and outdoor plans through early next week.

Friday Brings Storm Risk

The National Weather Service reports that showers and thunderstorms may develop after 1 a.m. Friday and intensify through the evening. South winds up to 25 mph could drive heavy downpours, with minor flooding possible on low-lying roads.

Friday will begin mostly sunny with highs near 83°F, but clouds will thicken in the afternoon as storms roll in.

Weekend Outlook

  • Saturday: Partly cloudy with highs in the low 80s. Another wave of rain may develop by night.
  • Sunday: Unsettled conditions return, with a 40% chance of showers after 1 p.m. and storms possible through the evening. Highs near 85°F.

Travelers on Highway 2 and Interstate 29 should be cautious, allowing extra time for possible delays during heavier rainfall.

Early Next Week

  • Monday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue, high 81°F.
  • Tuesday: Partly sunny with isolated storms, high 83°F.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by midweek, with more sunshine possible by Tuesday and Wednesday.
