Masked Intruders Attempt to Break Into Virginia Woman’s Home, Threaten to Kill Family — Caught on Doorbell Camera

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA — A Virginia family is in hiding after a horrifying late-night incident where three masked intruders tried to break into their home, threatening to kill them. The terrifying moment, captured on a doorbell camera, took place around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, at a residence on South Iris Street in Alexandria, just miles from Washington, D.C., according to Newsweek.

Terrifying Video Shows Armed Intruders in Halloween Masks

Doorbell footage shows three individuals in Halloween-style masks — one resembling Michael Myers, another a clown, and a third dressed as a sinister nun — pounding on the front door and demanding entry. One of the suspects can be heard shouting, “It is either you come out or we come in.” Inside the home were Shayla Whiteside, her widowed mother, and her younger brother. Shayla initially believed the knocking was a prank, wishing the group “Happy Halloween” before realizing it was something far more sinister.

When the family threatened to call police, the situation escalated. The intruders moved to the back of the property, broke through a wooden fence, slashed deck screens, and banged on windows while yelling threats to kill everyone inside. “My heart dropped when they said they were going to take a chair and break down the door,” Shayla said in an interview with WUSA9. “It’s not even a joke gone wrong; they tried to come in.”

Police Launch Investigation, Call It a Serious Crime

People Magazine reported that Alexandria Police Chief Tarrik McGuire condemned the attack, confirming that an investigation is underway. “They began making threatening and alarming comments to the family,” McGuire said. “Under Virginia state law, that constitutes burglary.” The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle and remain at large. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses to help identify them.

Social Media Users Express Outrage and Fear

The video of the attempted break-in, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @unlimited_ls, went viral within hours. Viewers were horrified by the footage, with many expressing concern for the family’s safety and frustration over the suspects still being at large. One person commented, “Literally The Purge.” Another added, “Imagine how fast they’d run if they heard a shotgun rack.” Others noted the incident as “one more reason we have the 2nd amendment.”

Community Demands Action as Suspects Remain at Large

Police have increased patrols in the area while asking residents to report suspicious activity or provide any additional video evidence. Authorities said the suspects could face multiple charges, including burglary, criminal threats, and property damage. As of Friday, no arrests have been made.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and ensure security systems are functioning properly. The Alexandria Police Department has asked anyone with information to contact them immediately.
