Loose Goat Caught on Video Chasing Residents Through Detroit Neighborhood, Sending Man Scrambling onto Car

DETROIT, Mich. — Residents in one Detroit neighborhood woke up to chaos this week when a loose goat went on a surprise rampage through their block, chasing people, charging at cars, and causing a commotion that quickly spread across social media.

Video footage posted by Metro Detroit News shows the black goat running through driveways and front lawns as startled residents screamed and tried to get away. At one point, a man can be seen climbing onto the hood of his own car to avoid the animal as it charged toward him.

Morning Chaos Caught on Camera

The incident unfolded early in the morning when neighbors began hearing shouts and laughter outside. One resident, who recorded the scene, said the goat appeared out of nowhere before it started charging at people and wandering through driveways.

The footage shows the animal moving between houses, stepping onto porches, and startling several people in its path. Some neighbors can be heard laughing nervously, while others yelled in disbelief as the goat refused to calm down.

Local residents say the goat is believed to be a pet belonging to someone living on the block, though how it managed to escape remains unclear.

“It just came barreling down the street,” one witness told reporters. “It looked friendly at first, but then it started running at people — and that’s when everyone started scrambling.”

Goat on the Loose: “It Charged Right at Me”

According to Metro Detroit News, at least one man was caught off guard when the goat charged directly toward him, prompting him to leap onto his car for safety. Witnesses described the moment as “straight out of a comedy movie.”

“He was yelling and trying to shoo it away, but the goat wasn’t having it,” a nearby resident said. “The poor guy just jumped on his hood, and we were all laughing and filming it.”

After the brief standoff, the goat reportedly wandered off and continued its mischief, chasing another person a few houses down. Eventually, the animal appeared to lose interest and began wandering around yards before disappearing from the camera’s view.

Viral Reactions and Community Humor

The footage, shared by Metro Detroit News on Instagram, has now gained thousands of views and reactions, with locals joking that the “Detroit Goat” deserves its own social media account.

Comments ranged from lighthearted to bewildered:

  • “Only in Detroit do you wake up and have to dodge a goat before coffee.”
  • “That goat had main character energy all morning.”
  • “This neighborhood needs a mascot — and I think we just found it.”

What Happened to the Goat?

While no injuries were reported, neighbors say the goat eventually made its way back toward its owner’s yard later that morning. Animal control officers were not officially called, as residents confirmed the animal was familiar to the block and had caused no harm — aside from a few scares and plenty of laughs.

This isn’t the first time Metro Detroit residents have encountered unusual animal sightings. In recent months, the city has seen escaped livestock, deer roaming urban streets, and even a cow chase that gained attention online.

Still, the latest incident has sparked plenty of community amusement — and a reminder to double-check backyard gates.
