Illinois Man Punching Glass Bar Window and Then Died in Crash on Way to Hospital

LAKE COUNTY, ILLINOIS – A late-night bar dispute turned fatal after 32-year-old Jonathan Banks suffered a severe injury and later died following a chaotic chain of events outside a bar on North Sheridan Road, according to officials with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the county coroner.

Fight at Bar Ends in Tragic Injury

The incident began when Banks got into an argument at a bar in the 37800 block of North Sheridan Road. Witnesses said he was escorted out by security after becoming combative with other patrons. Moments later, Banks allegedly punched his fist through a front window near the bar’s entrance, severely cutting his arm and causing significant bleeding.
Officials say Banks was losing blood rapidly and called on a friend at the bar to drive him to a nearby hospital.

Emergency Ride Turns Deadly

On the way to the hospital, Banks reportedly drifted in and out of consciousness. According to investigators, he suddenly grabbed the steering wheel from the passenger seat, causing the car to swerve violently and crash into a curb and trashcan.
The impact left the vehicle inoperable, and emergency services were called to the scene. Paramedics quickly arrived and transported Banks to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
