Houston Weather Alert: Scattered Storms Sunday, 90s Heat Returns Through Midweek

HOUSTON, T.X. — Southeast Texas faces its stormiest day of the week Sunday, with scattered thunderstorms expected across Houston, Galveston, and into the coastal bend near Matagorda Bay, according to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston.

Scattered Storms Peak Sunday

Rain chances are 30 to 40% across Houston, while Palacios and Matagorda Bay carry the highest risk with probabilities above 60%.

Most areas will see only light to moderate rainfall, but stronger cells could produce quick bursts of heavy downpours, raising the potential for localized flooding in urban and low-lying areas.

Drivers on I-45, Highway 59, and coastal routes are urged to use caution during sudden showers.

Heat Rebounds Into the 90s

Sunday’s storms will keep highs close to 90°F, slightly below average. By Tuesday and Wednesday, drier weather takes over, with temperatures climbing back into the mid-90s.

College Station could reach 96°F by Wednesday, while Houston is expected to hit the low 90s.

Looking Toward the Weekend

Storm chances diminish overnight into Monday, but isolated coastal showers could linger. Otherwise, summer-like heat will hold through the end of the week, with residents urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

With storms kicking off the week and rising heat to follow, southeast Texas will experience both flash-flood risks and summer heat stress over the next several days.
