High-Speed Chase Across Carolinas Ends with Seizure of Weapon of Mass Destruction, Deputies Say

RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. – A South Carolina man is facing multiple serious charges after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase across state lines, attempting to ram patrol cars, and being found with a weapon of mass destruction and illegal drugs.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), deputies tried to stop a vehicle suspected of being involved in illegal drug trafficking. The driver refused to pull over and instead fled at high speeds, initiating a pursuit that stretched from Richmond County, NC, into Marlboro County, SC.

Suspect Allegedly Tried to Hit Deputies With Car

During the chase, the suspect — later identified as Nyshawn Jermaine Miles of Wallace, South Carolina — allegedly attempted to strike deputies and patrol units with his vehicle. The pursuit ended when Miles was safely apprehended in South Carolina.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.

What Deputies Found Inside the Vehicle

Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered illegal narcotics and a firearm classified as a weapon of mass destruction (WMD). While specific details about the weapon were not released, RCSO said the situation was serious enough to notify federal authorities.

Miles is currently being held at the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office as he awaits extradition back to North Carolina. He faces firearm charges in Richmond County and is also wanted on additional charges in two South Carolina counties.

Federal Attention Now Involved

Due to the presence of a WMD-level weapon, federal agencies have been alerted and may assist in further investigation or charges.

As of now, charges are pending, and more information is expected to be released as the case develops.
