Georgia Man Accused of Killing St. Louis Native Denied Bond at First Court Appearance

MABLETON, GA. — The man accused of killing and burying the body of a St. Louis native in Georgia has been denied bond following his first court appearance Thursday evening.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, 56-year-old Cecil McCrary appeared before a Georgia magistrate judge after allegedly admitting to killing 45-year-old Tange Davis — his former girlfriend — and burying her body in Atlanta.

Judge Denies Bond in Thursday Hearing

During Thursday’s hearing, McCrary was denied bond by the judge. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 12, when a superior court judge will determine whether he is entitled to bond at all.

McCrary faces multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing a body, and two theft-related charges connected to Davis’ disappearance.

Timeline of the Investigation

Authorities say the investigation began on October 11, when police were called to a Lidl grocery store in Mableton, Georgia, after Davis’ son reported her missing.

The son told police he hadn’t heard from his mother since October 9, which was unusual. Using OnStar, he located her vehicle parked at the grocery store and called authorities.

When officers arrived, McCrary also showed up at the scene and told police that Davis had last been at his home. He even provided security footage that appeared to show Davis leaving his property that same night.

Confession Leads Police to Davis’ Body

As the days passed without new leads, Cobb County Police issued a public alert on October 14, asking for help locating Davis. That same day, investigators detained McCrary for questioning.

During his interview with Major Crimes detectives, McCrary allegedly confessed to killing Davis and revealed the location where he had buried her body in Atlanta.

Police then contacted the Atlanta City Police Department, who confirmed that they found a woman’s body in the area McCrary described.

Family and Community Seeking Justice

The case has devastated Davis’ loved ones in both St. Louis and Georgia, many of whom are demanding accountability for a tragedy they say could have been prevented.

Davis’ family members say she had endured a pattern of domestic violence in her relationship with McCrary and had previously sought help before her disappearance.

“Tange was a loving mother and sister who didn’t deserve this,” said a relative. “We just want justice for her and peace for her children.”

The case remains under active investigation by the Cobb County Police Department and Atlanta authorities as prosecutors prepare for the next round of hearings.

Anyone with additional information about Davis’ death or McCrary’s actions is urged to contact Cobb County Major Crimes Division.
