Franklin County Deputies End Armed Standoff After Shots Fired

FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — A tense standoff ended late Monday after deputies confronted an armed man who barricaded himself inside a home and allegedly fired shots at law enforcement.

Shots Fired at Deputies

According to Sheriff Kevin White, deputies arrived at a residence on Twin Creek Drive near Bunn around 5:30 p.m. following a shots-fired call. Upon arrival, the man inside opened fire on deputies, prompting an extended response that involved tactical units and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Bomb Squad.

Family Members Speak Out

Family members told ABC11 the suspect is in his 70s and in poor health. His daughter-in-law, who was inside the home at the time, said she heard three gunshots before fleeing and calling 911.

One of his sons suggested the situation may have escalated after his father had been drinking and began firing into the walls.

Resolution and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the man will face charges. No injuries were reported during the standoff, though officials have not disclosed further details about how it was resolved.

The sheriff’s office says the case remains under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
