Florida Shopper Says Publix Prices Have Surpassed Whole Foods: “I Can’t Afford to Shop Here Anymore”
FLORIDA — Publix has long been one of Florida’s most popular grocery chains, but some customers now say the supermarket has priced itself out of reach. A frustrated shopper went viral after sharing the prices of milk, bacon, and lunch meat, claiming they’ve made shopping at Publix nearly impossible.
Shopper’s Viral Video Highlights Rising Costs
In a TikTok clip that has drawn more than 54,000 views, user @keeping_up_with_chrissy showed Publix price tags that left her stunned.
“Why I can’t shop at Publix anymore. A half gallon of milk, $3.55. Bacon for $15.99. Lunch meat, $8.99,” she said while panning across the shelves.
While praising Publix’s reputation for quality service and its popular deli section, Chrissy added in her caption that “my wallet does not love Publix.”
Inflation and Policy Driving Prices Higher
Economists say grocery prices remain a major stress point for American households. Although inflation on groceries has cooled from a 9.4% peak in 2022 to 2.4% over the past year, many staples remain costly. Eggs, beef, and orange juice have stayed elevated due to supply chain disruptions and extreme weather.
Policies under former President Donald Trump’s tariffs have added pressure by raising the cost of imported goods, including coffee, fruit, and canned foods. Analysts warn prices may climb further as retailers run through old inventory and adjust to higher import costs.
Frustration Among Shoppers and Workers
Publix, which operates more than 1,400 stores across the Southeast, is feeling the backlash. Commenters online blasted the chain:
- “Publix is a SCAM.”
- “Publix prices have gone beyond Whole Foods… while the quality has gone down.”
- A self-identified Publix employee added, “I can’t afford Publix on my paycheck.”
Many shoppers said they’re turning to Aldi, coupons, or smaller portions to make ends meet.
Rising grocery costs are forcing families to rethink where they shop and what they buy. Have you noticed higher prices at your local Publix or other supermarkets? Share your experiences in the comments and continue the conversation at SaludaStandard-Sentinel.com.
