Families Flock to Beatty’s Ford Park Swim Beach for July 4th Fun
DENVER, N.C. — A new local gem made waves this Independence Day as families gathered at the freshly opened Beatty’s Ford Park Swim Beach on Lake Norman to escape the summer heat and enjoy some festive fun.
Opening just last month, the swim beach has already become a popular destination — especially for families looking for a nearby alternative to long road trips.
A Local Hit From Day One
Annie Phillips and her dad Cody were among the first to arrive on the morning of July 4. “My dad told me to leap in, and he gave me a piggyback,” Annie told reporters, giggling with excitement. By early afternoon, she still didn’t want to leave.
“She loves the beach and loves the water, so she’s tickled to death,” Cody said. “She’d be here every weekend.”
Affordable Fun Close to Home
For many, the beach offers the convenience of a vacation experience without the drive. Jake Williams, a local father, said he brought his children out after hearing about the new swim area from relatives.
“My grandma was telling me about it and other family members, so I had to come and check it out,” he said. “Now they get to play in sand and wear them out all day so they can sleep all night.”
Williams, who grew up in the area, was especially glad for the beach’s proximity. “They always want to go to the beach, but it’s a 4.5-hour drive to the closest one. So for a 10-minute drive, it’s worth it.”
A ‘Staycation’ Favorite
Steve Wilson and his wife described the park as a hidden treasure. “We were actually talking about going to the beach, but decided we’d come out here because this was available. You know, it’s like a nice staycation spot,” Wilson said. “Hopefully, we can keep it a secret.”
The beach is open Wednesday through Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free for kids under the age of 5, making it a budget-friendly option for young families.
