Dense Fog Alert Issued

Dense Fog Alert Issued for Parts of North Carolina Through Morning

RALEIGH, N.C. — The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory for portions of central and eastern North Carolina, warning drivers to prepare for reduced visibility during the Friday morning commute.

Fog Advisory in Effect

According to the NWS Raleigh office, the advisory began at 5:18 a.m. Friday and remains in effect until 9:15 a.m. It covers Vance, Warren, Halifax, Franklin, Nash, Edgecombe, Johnston, Wilson, and Wayne counties.

Forecasters say visibility may drop to just a few hundred feet in some areas before fog lifts or burns off by mid-morning.

Driving Safety Tips

The National Weather Service recommends motorists take extra precautions:

  • Reduce speed and allow for additional travel time.
  • Use low-beam headlights or fog lights to remain visible.
  • Avoid high beams, which cause glare and reduce visibility.
  • Maintain a safe following distance in case of sudden stops.
  • Stay in your lane by following road markings.
  • If visibility drops to near zero, pull over to a safe location, turn on hazard lights, and wait until conditions improve.

While foggy mornings are common in North Carolina during seasonal shifts, forecasters stress that Friday’s dense conditions could cause travel disruptions, particularly for early commuters.
