Dayglo Abortions Members Released From Ohio Jail as Police Buy Band T-Shirts
ASHLAND, O.H. — In a bizarre twist of events, two members of Canadian punk legends Dayglo Abortions were released from jail in Ohio this week, only for deputies to stock up on the band’s merchandise before sending them back on tour.
Arrest After Cleveland Show
Singer-guitarist Murray Acton and guitarist Matthew Fiorito were arrested last Saturday following a performance in Cleveland. Mugshots of the longtime punk musicians quickly appeared on the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office website.
Initially, neither man was charged. However, Fiorito was later accused of possession of a Schedule I or II substance, which could include drugs ranging from cannabis to heroin or even prescription medications like Adderall.
Bond and Release
With the help of a GoFundMe campaign launched by fans in Vancouver, Fiorito was released on bond by Wednesday. Acton was released without charges.
The Surreal Moment: Police Buy Band Merch
Before the band left town, deputies at the sheriff’s office reportedly bought 10 tour T-shirts from the group and posed for a photo with the musicians — a moment that stunned fans and supporters alike.
Vancouver punk icon wendythirteen, a longtime supporter of the band, described the ordeal as:
“Pure insanity… It truly is the makings of a Dayglos song.”
Tour Continues Despite Setback
Despite the arrests, the Dayglo Abortions have decided to continue their American tour, with upcoming shows scheduled in Brooklyn, Lynchburg, Richmond, and Charleston.
Fans say the band’s decision to press on embodies the rebellious spirit that has defined their music since the 1980s.
This strange encounter in Ohio adds yet another chapter to the Dayglo Abortions’ storied history of controversy, defiance, and unpredictability.
