Chicago Records 36 Consecutive Hours Without a Reported Shooting After Grand Crossing and Woodlawn Incidents Earlier This Week

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — The city has recorded 36 consecutive hours without a reported shooting, according to police, marking a pause in gun violence following two separate incidents earlier this week.

Authorities confirmed that as of 9 a.m. Friday, no additional shootings had been reported citywide since Wednesday evening.

Last Reported Shooting in Grand Crossing

Police said the most recent shooting occurred Wednesday around 7:17 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Harper Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Investigators stated that a 29-year-old man was standing outside when a dark-colored truck drove past. Someone inside the vehicle allegedly opened fire before fleeing the scene. The victim was struck twice in the right arm and transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was reported in fair condition.

As of Friday morning, no charges had been filed in connection with that incident.

Separate Shooting in Woodlawn Injured Four

Minutes before the Grand Crossing shooting, four individuals were wounded in a separate shooting in the Woodlawn neighborhood.

Police have not announced arrests in that case either. Details regarding the victims’ conditions have not been further updated in the provided information.

Citywide Pause in Reported Shootings

Following those incidents, Chicago police reported no additional shootings over the next 36 hours. While such stretches are not unprecedented, they remain closely watched amid ongoing concerns about gun violence in the city.

Law enforcement officials have not indicated whether additional patrols or enforcement measures contributed to the pause.

The development comes after periods of heightened violence earlier in the week, though authorities caution that investigations remain ongoing in both cases.
