Chesterfield County Driver Dies After Colliding With Fallen Tree on SC 102
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. – A tragic crash in Chesterfield County has left one person dead after a pickup truck collided with a tree that had fallen onto the road.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the crash occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Monday, June 30, along SC 102 near Bear Creek Road. Responding troopers found that a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling north had struck a tree blocking the road, then veered off to the right and hit a second tree.
Driver Later Died at Hospital
Emergency personnel rushed the driver to a local hospital, but despite efforts, they later succumbed to their injuries.
As of now, the identity of the driver has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigation Still Ongoing
Officials have not confirmed how the tree came to be blocking the roadway — whether due to storm damage, rot, or another hazard — and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident, and no further details were available at the time of reporting.
