Central North Carolina Storm Alert: Damaging Winds May Impact Travel Saturday
RALEIGH, N.C. — Central North Carolina faces a storm threat Saturday afternoon, with the potential for damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
Greatest Risk From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Forecasters said the highest risk window runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with storms expected to track across the Triangle and nearby counties including Wake, Durham, Chatham, and Alamance.
While widespread severe weather isn’t guaranteed, even isolated storms could topple trees, damage property, or trigger localized power outages.
Travel Concerns for Major Roadways
Drivers along Interstate 40, U.S. 64, and other major routes are advised to use caution. Sudden downpours combined with strong crosswinds may cause hazardous travel conditions during the afternoon and evening commute.
Officials also encourage residents to secure outdoor items, charge devices ahead of time, and monitor local alerts in case severe thunderstorm warnings are issued.
Looking Ahead
Conditions are expected to ease by Saturday night, with calmer weather Sunday and Monday. Still, unsettled skies and additional shower chances are forecast to return by midweek.
- Saturday: Storms possible, windy, high 87°F
- Sunday: Chance of showers, high 77°F
- Monday: Mostly sunny, high 78°F
- Tuesday–Wednesday: Chance of showers, highs near 78°F
Central North Carolina residents are urged to stay weather-aware as the storms approach.
