Breezy Winds Usher in Fall-Like Conditions Across Georgia Through the Weekend
MACON, GEORGIA — Georgia residents are getting their first real taste of fall this week as a shift in weather patterns brings cooler temperatures, breezy winds, and lower humidity across much of the state.
High Pressure Brings Clear Skies
An upper-level ridge over the Midwest is moving eastward, combining with high pressure along the coast to push dry air into Georgia. The result is low- to mid-level northeast winds that are gradually clearing out moisture and setting up a stretch of mostly clear skies.
On Wednesday, high temperatures reached the low to mid-80s, but changes arrive Thursday as dewpoints fall into the low 50s.
Cooler Temperatures for North and Middle Georgia
By Thursday, residents in north and Middle Georgia will notice a distinct fall-like feel, with highs in the mid to upper 70s across most areas and upper 60s to low 70s in higher elevations.
Overnight lows are forecast to dip into the upper 50s and low 60s, offering crisp mornings and pleasant evenings.
Forecasters say there is no threat of afternoon thunderstorms through Saturday, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities.
Weekend Outlook
High pressure will continue to dominate through Saturday, keeping skies sunny and conditions dry. However, models are split on what may come Sunday.
The GFS model suggests only limited moisture, while the European model points to a stronger system developing off the coast of Florida that could bring substantial rainfall to parts of central and north Georgia.
Meteorologists emphasize that there is still time for forecasts to shift, and updates will become clearer as the weekend approaches.
Fall Weather Finally Arrives
After weeks of lingering summer heat, the drop in humidity and cooler temperatures provide a welcome change for many Georgians.
