Flash Flood Risk Advisory

Arizona Weekend Weather Alert: Flash Flood Risk for Tucson and I-10 Through Saturday

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Flood Watch remains in effect for much of southern Arizona through Saturday evening, as thunderstorms fueled by Gulf moisture bring heavy rain and dangerous flooding risks.

I-10 Travel and Flood-Prone Areas at Risk

The National Weather Service in Tucson warned that rainfall totals of 1–2 inches could quickly overwhelm low-lying roads and washes.

Flooding concerns are especially high along the Santa Cruz River, Altar Valley, and San Pedro River Valley.

Drivers on I-10 through Tucson, as well as highways in Cochise and Pinal counties, may encounter swift water crossings and should avoid barricaded or flooded roads.

Safety Guidance From Officials

Emergency managers urged residents to:

  • Charge devices in case of power outages.
  • Secure outdoor items ahead of strong storms.
  • Keep travel plans flexible until the weather system clears.

Officials also reminded the public: “Turn around, don’t drown” — never attempt to drive through flooded intersections.

Improvement by Sunday

By Sunday, forecasters expect drier air to move in, bringing sunshine and calmer conditions that will last into early October.

Afternoon highs will range from the upper 80s to low 90s, with overnight lows dipping into the 60s. Cooler October nights are expected in the weeks ahead.
