Arctic Blast to Bring Freezing Temperatures Across Texas, Georgia, Illinois, and More Monday Morning

UNITED STATES — A powerful Arctic cold front is set to grip large portions of the U.S. early Monday, sending temperatures plummeting across Texas, Georgia, Illinois, and other central and eastern states. Meteorologists warn of biting windchills and near-freezing temperatures spreading rapidly before sunrise.

Meteorologist Chris Nunley shared a forecast map showing a widespread plunge, with “feels-like” temperatures ranging from the 0s in the Midwest to the 20s and 30s across the South.

Windchills Near Zero in the Midwest

Cities including Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, and Denver are expected to feel the sharpest cold, with morning windchills dropping into the single digits and low teens. Northern regions could see below-zero conditions, making it one of the season’s first true Arctic outbreaks.

Nunley noted that areas east of the Rockies will experience the harshest effects. “This is what it’ll feel like in the morning,” he said, pointing out that the nation is fortunate it’s not January, when such cold could become dangerous.

South and Southeast Also Turning Cold

The Arctic air mass won’t stop at the Midwest. Temperatures are forecast to dip into the 20s and 30s across Texas, Georgia, and Alabama, with Dallas, Atlanta, and Oklahoma City expecting windchills in the teens. Even areas as far south as northern Florida could briefly feel temperatures near the upper 30s.

East Coast Sees Early-Winter Chill

By Monday morning, the cold stretch will expand into the Northeast, affecting New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., where windchills could drop into the 20s.

Forecasters advise residents to dress warmly, protect outdoor pets and plants, and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, as windchills in the single digits can lead to frostbite in under 30 minutes.

Meteorologists say this Arctic plunge marks the start of a colder weather pattern for much of the country through mid-November.
