Chicago Father Held Without Bond After Allegedly Killing 2 Month-Old Son, Claiming “A Demon Made Him Do It”
CHICAGO — A 23-year-old Chicago man has been arrested and ordered held without bond after allegedly killing his two-month-old son and attempting to cover up the crime, later telling authorities that “a demon made him do it.”
According to Law and Crime and CBS Chicago, the suspect, identified as Anthony Evans, was charged after his infant son was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead from injuries consistent with blunt-force trauma and child abuse.
Infant Found Lifeless After Being Returned to Mother
Prosecutors said Evans enlisted a relative to return the baby to his mother, Kayla Flowers, under the pretense that the child was merely asleep. Flowers recalled that the baby was strapped in his car seat and covered when handed over to her in the rain.
She said she drove home to avoid waking him, but upon uncovering her child inside, she discovered he was lifeless. Emergency responders rushed the infant to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Medical examiners later determined the child had suffered brain bleeding and blunt-force trauma. Investigators estimate the baby had been deceased for several hours before being returned to his mother.
Suspect’s Statements and Disturbing Claims
When questioned by authorities, Evans allegedly confessed to the killing, claiming that a “demon” told him to harm his son.
Investigators say Evans also expressed resentment over the child’s birth, telling his girlfriend during her pregnancy that he wanted her to have an abortion. Flowers told police that Evans had been physically abusive throughout her pregnancy, including an incident where he allegedly punched her in the stomach.
Judge Denies Bond as Investigation Continues
Following his arrest, Evans appeared before a Cook County judge, who denied bond due to the severity of the charges and the disturbing nature of the allegations.
Authorities have not disclosed whether mental health evaluations have been ordered, but prosecutors indicated that additional evidence — including autopsy results and forensic interviews — will be presented at a later hearing.
The tragic case has left community members and family devastated. Neighbors described the crime as “senseless” and said they were still in shock over the details shared in court.
Evans is currently being held in Cook County Jail and faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery to a child.
