New York Man Charged After Ambushing and S*xually Assaulting 12-Year-Old Girl in Brooklyn Housing Stairwell
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Authorities in New York have arrested a 27-year-old man accused of ambushing and raping a 12-year-old girl inside a stairwell at a public housing complex in Brooklyn.
According to the New York Post, the suspect, Eric McMichael, was taken into custody Friday and charged with two counts of rape, burglary, s*xual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child following a disturbing incident that left the community shaken.
Girl Ambushed Inside Cooper Houses Building
Investigators said the assault occurred Thursday around 5:45 p.m. in the stairwell of the Cooper Houses building, a public housing residence located in Brooklyn. Police said McMichael approached the young victim, threatened her, and forced her to the ground.
According to a police report, the suspect made explicit threats toward the girl before carrying out the attack, leaving her physically injured and emotionally traumatized.
Suspect Arrested After Fleeing Scene
Authorities said McMichael fled immediately after the assault when another person entered the stairwell. Detectives with the New York Police Department’s Special Victims Division identified the suspect using surveillance footage and arrested him the following day.
He is now facing multiple felony charges and remains in custody pending court proceedings. Police described the attack as “brutal and predatory,” emphasizing that McMichael will face the full extent of the law.

The 12-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital Thursday evening, where she was treated for injuries and listed in stable condition. Police and local advocates are providing continued support to the child and her family.
