Texas Boy, 20, Shoots Mother 11 Times After She Told Him to Go to Bed

SANTA TERESA, TEXAS — A 20-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly shooting his mother 11 times inside their family home following a late-night argument about him going to bed.

According to police, Kevin Marin faces charges of aggravated battery and attempted murder after authorities say he opened fire on his mother in the early morning hours of October 13 at their residence on Ashwood Drive.

Mother Found Bleeding After Late-Night Shooting

Officers with the Sunland Park Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around midnight and found Marin’s mother bleeding heavily in the hallway just outside her son’s bedroom.

She was rushed to Transmountain Hospital in El Paso before being transferred to University Medical Center, where doctors confirmed she had suffered 11 gunshot wounds. As of October 14, she remained in critical condition, according to officials.

Four other family members — including a child — were asleep in the home during the shooting, but none were injured.

Investigators believe the violent attack stemmed from a brief exchange earlier that night, when Marin’s mother told him to “go to bed” because he was “acting crazy.”

Suspect Arrested After Family Cooperation

Police later located and arrested Marin after his brother provided key details about the argument that took place before the shooting. Marin was taken into custody without further incident.

He is currently being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Center, where prosecutors have filed a motion to have him detained without bond under New Mexico’s pretrial detention statute, according to a report from The Mirror.

Community Shock and Ongoing Investigation

Neighbors told investigators the family had recently moved to the area and kept to themselves. Authorities have not yet released details about the firearm used or whether it was legally owned.

The shocking nature of the case has rattled the small Santa Teresa community, where residents expressed disbelief that a simple household dispute could escalate into attempted murder.

“This is something no family should ever have to experience,” one neighbor said. “It’s horrifying.”

Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they review forensic evidence from the scene and continue to interview witnesses.

Marin is expected to appear before a judge later this week for a bond hearing.
