Sacramento Man Arrested After Drive-By Shooting at ABC10 TV Station
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A 64-year-old man has been arrested after a drive-by shooting targeted the ABC10 television station in Sacramento on Friday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
Bullets Fired Into Station Lobby
The Sacramento Police Department said officers responded around 1:30 p.m. Friday to reports of gunfire at the ABC10 building on Broadway. At least three bullets struck a lobby window while employees were inside. No one was injured as the vehicle sped away.
Suspect Arrested and Released on Bail
Early Saturday, police arrested Anibal Hernandezsantana, charging him with shooting into an occupied building, assault with a deadly weapon, and negligent discharge of a firearm. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail but later released after posting $200,000 bail.
Hernandezsantana is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m.
Motive Under Investigation
The shooting came just one day after protesters gathered outside the station over ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show. Investigators have not confirmed whether the protest or the show’s suspension played a role in the shooting, saying the motive remains unclear.
Station and Community Respond
ABC10’s parent company TEGNA issued a statement thanking law enforcement and confirming increased security for staff.
“Our priority is to ensure our employees’ safety and well-being as they continue to carry out our mission to serve our community with critical local news and information,” the spokesperson said.
The National Association of Black Journalists’ Sacramento chapter called the incident “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” adding, “Violence against members of the media is violence against our entire community.”
The shooting has reignited concerns over the safety of journalists and newsrooms nationwide.
