Body Believed to Be Missing Georgia Man Found in Canton

CANTON, N.C. — Authorities say a body recovered in Haywood County is believed to be that of a missing 26-year-old man from North Georgia who vanished more than two weeks ago.

Body Found in Newfound Area

The body was discovered Tuesday afternoon in the Newfound area off I-40 in Haywood County, according to investigators.

Search teams, including K9 units and four-wheelers, had been scouring the region since the man’s car was located in a church parking lot outside Canton.

Connection to Missing Person

Officials believe the remains are those of Conner Budd, whose vehicle was found Sept. 7 at Plains Methodist Church.

The discovery brings a somber turn to a search that had gripped the community for more than two weeks. Formal identification and cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

Community Reaction

The case had drawn concern across both North Carolina and Georgia as friends and family spread word of Budd’s disappearance. Many had joined in efforts to locate him before Tuesday’s discovery.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to confirm the identity and circumstances surrounding the death. Do you think more resources should be devoted to missing persons searches in rural communities? Share your thoughts in the comments at SaludaStandard-Sentinel.com.
