Beaufort County Manhunt Underway After Murder Suspect’s Vehicle Found Abandoned
BEAUFORT COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA – Deputies are searching for a 21-year-old man wanted in connection to a deadly shooting at a St. Helena Island mobile home park, after investigators located his abandoned vehicle Thursday.
Shooting at Independence Mobile Home Park
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Independence Mobile Home Park on Shanklin Road.
When they arrived, they discovered 20-year-old Ty Haskell Jenkins IV dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators later determined that Tyre Joe Atkins, 21, of St. Helena Island, was the suspected shooter .
Vehicle Found, Suspect Still Missing
On Thursday, deputies released a description of Atkins’ vehicle and soon after located it abandoned. However, Atkins himself has not been found.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest on a murder charge, and deputies say he remains at large .
Suspect Considered Armed and Dangerous
Atkins is described as 5’10” tall, weighing around 170 pounds. Authorities warn that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Deputies are urging anyone who sees Atkins to call 911 immediately rather than approach him.
