CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A 19-year-old Chesapeake man was taken into custody in Moyock, North Carolina on Wednesday after police say he attacked a woman, leaving her with a laceration wound in a busy residential area.
Woman Attacked in Chesapeake
Police said officers were called around 11:41 a.m. to the 500 block of Independence Parkway, where they found a woman suffering from a cut to her body. The victim told investigators that she had been attacked by an unknown man before he fled the scene .
The suspect was initially described as a white male in his 20s with curly hair, possibly wearing a speckled shirt. The report prompted an urgent search in both Virginia and North Carolina.
Moyock Commons Lockdown
Hours later, the suspect’s vehicle was located at 100 Moyock Commons Drive, near an Atlantic Union Bank in the Moyock Commons shopping center. The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office warned the public to avoid the area as deputies, SWAT officers, and Chesapeake police surrounded the suspect’s car .
During the standoff, Moyock Elementary School was placed on a temporary hold, with buses and parent pickups delayed until the scene was secured. Officials said these precautions were taken to ensure children and families were kept safe while deputies worked to resolve the situation.
Suspect Identified as 19-Year-Old
Authorities confirmed the suspect as Kaden Taylor Noe, 19, of Chesapeake. Deputies said he was found sitting in his vehicle and refusing to communicate with officers. With the assistance of an armored SWAT vehicle, deputies were able to safely take Noe into custody.
Noe sustained what officials described as minor injuries and was transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for treatment before being returned to Chesapeake. His vehicle was also transported back for further investigation.
Community Shock
The initial attack occurred near Oak Grove Lake Park, a location frequently used by joggers and families. Ryan Bailey, a Chesapeake resident who exercises at the park, said the incident was unsettling.
“It’s alarming, for sure. Dozens of people use those trails every day. I never thought something like this could happen in broad daylight,” Bailey told reporters.
Mental Health Concerns
A detective with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office later suggested that Noe may have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident.
“Some people have bad days, man,” Bailey added. “When you’ve got a bad day like that, you need to reach out to somebody — don’t come out here and try to inflict harm to people.”
Warrants Obtained
The Chesapeake Police Department has obtained warrants for Noe’s arrest, though it is unclear which specific charges he will face. Investigators confirmed that the case remains under active investigation, and more information is expected to be released once charges are finalized.
