Motorist Killed in Overnight Crash Near North Hills in Raleigh
RALEIGH — A tragic overnight crash near North Hills Shopping Center claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman early Sunday morning, police confirmed.
The incident occurred around 2:44 a.m. at the intersection of Six Forks and Lassiter Mill roads. According to authorities, the woman was ejected from her vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Dodge SUV Overturned After Collision at Busy Intersection
Police say the crash involved a Dodge Journey SUV and a white Ford pickup truck. The pickup truck came to rest within the intersection, its front end visibly damaged. The Dodge SUV ended up on its side, further south of the intersection, in the southbound lanes of Six Forks Road.
Emergency responders located the victim, 22-year-old Nazirah Eason, lying in the roadway. Officers initiated life-saving efforts until EMS arrived, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Say Seatbelt Was Not Used
Authorities noted that Eason was not wearing a seatbelt when the SUV overturned, resulting in her being ejected from the vehicle. Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe she failed to stop at a red light before the collision occurred.
The driver of the pickup truck remained on the scene, and no charges have been filed as of now.
Ongoing Investigation But No Charges Yet
While police continue to investigate the exact sequence of events, there are no indications of foul play or impairment. The early evidence suggests a red light violation as the primary contributing factor in the crash.
