Mt. Juliet Police Investigating Fatal Shooting That Led to Shelter-in-Place Alert
MT. JULIET, Tenn. — A fatal shooting in Mt. Juliet on Sunday night prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order for nearby residents as police worked to secure the area and begin their investigation.
Shelter-in-Place Alert Issued
The Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) said the incident occurred in the 700 block of Parrish Place. Shortly after 8 p.m., the department posted on X (formerly Twitter) advising residents to remain indoors until the area was confirmed safe.
Just 15 minutes later, officers updated the public that the situation was contained to a single property and there was no wider threat to the community.
One Person Dead
By around 10 p.m., police confirmed the investigation involved a self-inflicted injury that resulted in the individual’s death. No other injuries were reported.
“Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends, and all who are impacted,” MJPD said in an official statement.
Investigation Continues
Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased, and no further details about the events leading up to the shooting have been shared. The investigation is ongoing.
