19-Year-Old Arrested After 12-Car Crash in Las Vegas Leaves Two Dead, Several Injured

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — A 19-year-old driver has been arrested following a deadly 12-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard, killing two people and injuring several others.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the massive crash unfolded around 3:30 p.m., when the driver of a 2011 Infiniti G37 heading eastbound on Cheyenne Avenue sped through a red light and collided with multiple vehicles that were stopped at the intersection.

Deadly Chain Reaction at Busy Intersection

The force of the impact caused a catastrophic chain-reaction collision, damaging at least 12 vehicles. Police said two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, and four others were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to critical.

Officers confirmed that one victim remains in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.

The two victims who lost their lives were later identified as a 20-year-old female passenger in the Infiniti and a 38-year-old male driver of a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek who was among the vehicles struck.

Suspect in Custody

The 19-year-old driver, whose name has not yet been released pending formal charges, was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators suspect that excessive speed played a major role in the collision, and impairment has not been ruled out.

Authorities are currently reviewing traffic camera footage and witness statements to determine the precise cause of the crash and whether additional charges — such as vehicular manslaughter or reckless driving resulting in death — will be filed.

Police Describe ‘Devastating’ Scene

Responding officers described the crash site as one of the most severe traffic collisions seen in recent years.

“It was a devastating scene with cars scattered across multiple lanes and significant debris,” one LVMPD officer said. “It’s a reminder of how quickly lives can be lost when speed and inattention come together.”

The intersection remained closed for several hours Tuesday evening as crash reconstruction teams worked to document evidence and clear wreckage.

Community Shock and Safety Reminder

Local residents expressed grief and frustration after learning the crash was allegedly caused by reckless driving. Cheyenne Avenue is a major commuter route, and residents say speeding and red-light running have been persistent safety issues in the area.

Officials urged drivers to slow down, especially at busy intersections during peak traffic hours.

“Speeding remains one of the top causes of deadly crashes in Clark County,” police reiterated in a statement.

The crash remains under active investigation. Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area is encouraged to contact the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.
