10-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured After Being Hit by Delivery Truck in Travelers Rest
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A 10-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after being struck by an Amazon delivery truck while riding his bicycle in a South Carolina neighborhood, authorities confirmed.
Crash on West Drive
The incident happened Friday around 5:25 p.m. on West Drive in Travelers Rest, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Witnesses say the boy, identified by neighbors as Ethan, was hit while riding his bike near his home.
Neighbor Robert Boyer recalled the moment emergency responders rushed to the scene.
“I went back in from our walk. Next thing, I heard all these sirens. Unfortunately, Ethan had been hit,” Boyer told WRDW.
Airlifted to Greenville Hospital
Troopers said Ethan was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. His parents confirmed he remains in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), stable but facing a difficult recovery ahead.
“Ethan is doing as well as can be expected. He’s in the process of recovering,” Boyer added. “An accident like that is not common at all. That’s not what we hear about in this neighborhood.”
Community Concerns
Neighbors expressed concerns about delivery truck safety in residential areas, calling for more caution from drivers.
“People need to understand what actually happened here and why it happened and the circumstances, because it’s very avoidable and we shouldn’t let it happen,” Boyer said.
Some residents claimed delivery trucks often drive too fast through the area, putting children at risk.
Amazon Responds
When asked for comment, Amazon spokesperson Jesus Garcia said the company would defer to law enforcement for updates.
“Until we get more information, we’ll defer to law enforcement for any updates,” Garcia said in a statement.
The Highway Patrol confirmed that no charges have been filed at this time.
Fundraiser for Ethan
Family members and friends have launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover Ethan’s medical expenses during his recovery.
