1 Dead After Vehicle Collides with Dump Truck in Spartanburg County

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A tragic crash on Wednesday morning in Spartanburg County claimed the life of a 55-year-old man after his pickup truck struck a stopped dump truck on Highway 101 near Greer.

Crash Involved Stalled Dump Truck on Highway 101

The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed the incident occurred just before 6:30 a.m. near 3060 Highway 101. A dump truck had reportedly become disabled and was sitting stationary in the middle of the road when the fatal collision occurred.

The driver of a 1997 GMC truck was unable to avoid the obstruction and rear-ended the dump truck. Authorities say the impact was severe and the driver of the GMC died at the scene.

Victim Identified as Greer Resident Rogelio Hernandez-Grijalva

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Rogelio Hernandez-Grijalva, a 55-year-old resident of Greer, South Carolina. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, but Hernandez-Grijalva was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The dump truck driver was reportedly uninjured, and no additional passengers were involved in the crash.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

Authorities have not yet released further details about why the dump truck was stopped or whether any charges could be filed. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
