Son Of Saluda Native Excels
The son of a Saluda native have been getting recognition in baseball
Tyler Renz was selected The Journal News, Lower Hudson Valley, NY, Player of the Week.
Tyler is the son Saluda native, Carey Potts Renz, and the grandsojn of Paul Potts and the late Verda Potts of Saluda
Tyler is a junior at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, New York.
The St. John's commit tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout in a 3-0 league win over White Plains, where he racked up a school record 19 strikeouts and didn't issue any walks.
At one point, Renz struck out nine straight batters in his dominant outing.
“It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before in my time at Fox Lane,” veteran Coach Hillis said of Renz (3-1, 2.20 ERA, 58 K, 28.2 IP), a beacon of hope in an otherwise subpar season (4-9) in Class A. “My greatest joy this season has been watching Tyler Renz pitch. I’ve never seen anything like the win over White Plains, it was unbelievably dominant. His first pitch of the game was 92 (MPH) his last pitch of the game was a fastball at 89. It was unreal.”
Tigers Walk Off Batesburg-Leesville
Saluda High’s baseball team claimed a 9-8 walk-off win over archrival Batesburg-Leesville in the opening round of the 2-A playoffs Tuesday, May 2.
With two outs, a 3-2 count and bases loaded, Manny Dominguez was walked to score Jaxon Berry and tie the game.
The Tigers were running on the pitch and when the ball skipped away from the Panther catcher, Josh Uhlar was able to score from 2nd base to give the Tigers the win.

The Tigers travelled to Gray Collegiate on Thurs., May 4, nand lost to the War Eagles, they they had a rematch with B&L Saturday and fell to the Panthers. Gray defeated B&L Monday to win the District.
Tiger Soccer Team Advances
Saluda High’s soccer team advanced to the third round of the 2A play-offs.
Saluda opened with an overtime win over Fox Creek. They followed that with a 1-0 victory over Newberry.
Saluda lost to Gray Collegiate on May 5, and got eliminated from the play-offs.
